Get to Know
Mike Jamgochian comes from a family of crafters and woodworking hobbyists. He started building and refinishing furniture and cabinets over 25 years ago. After buying his first home, he enjoyed using his skills to remodel and expand the house. He found particular satisfaction in converting the function of existing spaces, indoors and out, to better suit the needs of his family. Over the years, Mike has gained an even better understanding of materials and design with an eye toward their adaptation for practical use.
When Mike's father introduced him to scrollwork several years ago, he was inspired to explore more ornamental areas of woodworking. Beginning with simple 2-dimensional holiday ornaments, he was soon producing both functional (baskets, bowls, clocks) and decorative (ornaments, frames, trivets, boxes) items.
Complex cuts and graphic designs held particular interest for him. In 2009, Mike was able to marry ornament & function in an ash and mahogany screen surrounding a set of antique temple doors. The screen's ornamentation was inspired by the temple door carvings. Don't miss the photo on his homepage!
