Get to Know

I come from a family of craftsmen and have worked with wood through my life. Some of my fondest memories are of being in the shop with Dad, with dust flying and projects under way. With metalsmithing, I found a new love working with metal sheet and wire (or, maybe this passion found me). A quick shout-out to Priscilla Fritsch at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, for inspiring courage and creativity in her students. Rather than be constrained to a particular technique or style, I find it very satisfying to mix materials such as metal and wood. I am fascinated with the colors and properties of stones and glass beads--especially how they contrast with or complement metal. As with many areas of life, I believe jewelry should be about more than the end result. What I mean by that is--process matters. There is deeper appeal in the character and uniqueness of handmade items (qualities that seem to be missing in our stamped-out, mass-produced world) and this is what I offer. I make many components though will note if using pre-made chain. I'll also let you know if I've used reclaimed or recycled materials. Confession: I LOVE EARRINGS. In endless supply and styles. I've been known to drive home to put a pair of earrings in if I leave the house without them--yikes! If you see a lot of earrings posted, at least you know it's an admitted obsession. Note that I can change almost any earring from a hook to a post. Please send me a message before checking out do discuss post options, which include my handmade sterling or 14k gold-filled spiral posts for a small upcharge.
