Skills and Techniques

I've always been attracted to rocks. When we sold our home in MI and came to Arizona I was impressed by the beautiful wire-wrapped jewelry some of our new friends were making from rocks. Consequently I took a lapidary class at the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum followed by a wire-wrapping class at the Wickenburg Gem & Mineral Society. Then invested in the necessary machines and tools; it was a leap of faith.

Get to Know

My husband, Verlo, and I have 3 beautiful daughters who have blessed us with 9 amazing grand-children! We sold our home in Michigan in 2007 to come out West; we sold what wouldn't fit into our 5th wheel. I create wire-wrapped gemstone jewelry from real rocks. We buy most of our rocks in Quartsite, AZ, but we do find a few in the Arizona desert. My husband then slices the rocks into "slabs" on his rock saw. I draw the shape, cut it out, grind it, and polish it on my Genie machine. At this point the rock has earned the title of cabochon, that is a rock shaped into a gem with a dome on top. I wrap most of the gemstones with 14K Gold-filled wire or Sterling Silver wire creating pendants, earrings, bracelets and other fine jewelry. I purchase only the finest quality materials to create jewelry.
