How long will it take for Organza Bags to ship to me

One of the worst mistakes of a Customer is not reading the full listing to see the arrival estimated date of their large organza order. First, My Father's Gifts is not a Warehouse, and not a manufacturer. As much as I wish I were, I am a single employee entrepreneur, bootstrap small business. I have been in business since 2007 and have a great deal of respect and wisdom when dealing with Chinese manufacturers. Thus why my organza bags are above any others. First let's talk about where Organza bags come from. Organza, ribbons, satin, nylon and polyester products ALL come from China. You can buy them from others in the USA but they... » Read More

What's Google Crawl?

I find it really interesting how many Artisans open a shop on Artfire with only list a few items without even giving search engine optimization a chance.  It sounds like a big task with a bunch of programming lingo.  You don't have to go to school for this little important issue and you don't have to hire someone to do it for you!  A few simple tasks and you have it!  OK, so what is SEO ie:  Search Engine Optimization?  Let me put it to you this way: the internet is just that, a web of links from one address to another and interlinked with each other.  The more addresses, links, pages and substance to your pages, the tighte... » Read More

Faceted Pearls Among the Rest

Have you ever seen a faceted pearl?  Most people don't consider pearls to be faceted.  They are a rare comodity.  You most likely think of crystal or gemstone when faceted is mentioned.  Many countries besides the United States consider pearls to be gemstones.  They are, after all, organic matter.  They are grown like crystals and gemstones.  But not with heat or cooling.  They are made of nacre, a silk like protien produced by a mollusk.  The pearl's shape and color depends greatly on the geological location, type of waters and temperature of the bed where the mollusk resides.  Here is some pearl knowledge to... » Read More

Love What You Do

When I began MyFathersGifts, I created because I loved it. making jewelry was my passion, it brought me peace, joy, quiet time, self approval and a feeling of accomplishment.  I became successful almost immediately, I poured my heart into it. I didn't care what money rolled in or if it didn't at all. I just loved making jewelry. As time pushed on, I began to experience tragedies in my life that potentially could have closed me down for good. Sorrow crept in, lack of time for self, caring for others and less for me. I forgot all that I loved to do, to make and only focused on taking care of everyone else. My jewelry stopped selling, my love fo... » Read More

Another Grand Adventure!

With the new ArtFire group deal in action, we sure have had a big turn out.  That was a bit sticky though.  You gotta be careful on Social Media these days, you have a lot of "interesting" people you may run into(or chase after you).  I am the creator of It's Better Handmade! Group on Facebook.  It has had it's ups and downs, been through the refiners fire and been tipped upside down in the deep end.  But...we are still there.  And the members, for the most part are very supportive toward each other, and me(thankfully).  Grace is always good when you are in a leadership position and finding yourself oh so very human. Having an Expo Thrown at You!

I have had the opportunity to participate in the Phil Long Ford Home and Landscaping Show at the Expo Center.  It was a spur of the moment opportunity and it took alot of hard work and quick thinking to pull it off!  I have never participated in a big event like this one, I was a bit overwhelmed and almost bailed several times.  My husband first approached me with this event to help him with his company, Integrity Home Theater.  He had needed some help running his booth at the Expo Center.  He offered me a small square on his table for my Jewelry design company.  I thought that was well worth the time donated to help c... » Read More

Why Artfire?

I am often approached by fellow artisans and website hosts on why I love Artfire so much.  I was even asked why I have been able to make sales in just a couple of months.  Many others have asked if I like Etsy or Arfire more.  Although the sales seem to be a bit better on Etsy with little effort, I have to say an outstanding Artfire!!  Even though I do most of the SEO and networking myself, I still love Artifre the best. There are reasons why, but first I want to share a little My Father's Gifts online history. When I started my online business, it really wasn't as an online merchant but rather just a simple website throug... » Read More

What Makes a Good Teacher?

My son has a severe case of ADD(attention deficite disorder).  All through out his middle school history, he struggled with the teaching techniques of his teachers.  One year, he would have a great team of teachers, and then next, they just didn't do a good job with their teaching techniques.  Those years, he floundered from an A student to a C student.  It didn't mean he didn't try hard, or that he was lazy or even stupid.  He just struggled with the communication style of the teacher.  {a note about Joshua: He is a briliant young man who designs robotics and machanical engineering that are far above his age level.  H... » Read More

Taking Pictires of Your Jewelry.

When this little hobby turned business, I wanted to learn how to take pictures of my creations!  I searched long and hard on the internet for instructions.  Found many blogs and many kits you could buy for a photo box.  I even ran accross instructions on how to build one yourself. The first thing I did is find a fairly high pixel camera, not always the best thing to do!  Most online picture posting requires low pixel!  But the options on my camera were cool(even though I hadn't a clue as to how to use them).  After trying some settings, I found that the automatic setting without flash and with flower closeup was the b... » Read More

Important People

One day a woman's husband died, and on that clear, cold morning, in the warmth of their bedroom,  the wife was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't "anymore." No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat, no more "just one minute."Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away, never to return before we can say good-bye, say "I love you." So while we have it, it's best we love it, care for it, fix it when it's broken and heal it when it's sick.. This is true for marriage ...and children with bad report cards, family, aging parents and ... » Read More

The passion of Crystals

I find it interesting that most high end molded benchwork jewelry stores, such as Zales, tends to have absolutely no knowledge of what Swarovski crystal beads are!  Once in a while, they will have one or two employees that know about the figurines, but for the most part, they only know about diamonds and gemstones.  I have even run into some that have never heard of Swarovski crystal.  Crazy, huh!  Who doesn't love Swarovski crystal.  And on a second turn, what in the world is the difference between glass crystal, german crystal and Swarovski crystal.  You can ask almost any Swarovski crystal fan and they can tell you... » Read More

Common Sense and Science for your Sterling

Many of us love sterling silver rather than gold.  Gold tends to green our skin in many cases.  The dificulty with Sterling is the tarnish factor.  Even more dificult for chain is the kink and knot factor!  Getting those knots out is really anoying! I have a few quick words of advice for both! Let's talk briefly about types of sterling and why or why not they might tarnish.  Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper.  Just a note, if you have had a reaction to sterling in the past, it was not the traditional sterling and may have been exposed to argentium or a metal alloy blend for cost effectiveness.  Argentium... » Read More
