Refreshing Greens!

A couple of days ago I curated a collection of different shades of green, called “Refreshing Greens.”  The collection was inspired by watching the miraculous transformation of the desert due to the unusual amount of rain we have been receiving, probably due to El Nino.  Officially to date, we have received just a little over 2.5”, which is 1” more than the norm (our yearly norm is about 9.5”).  It’s amazing how that extra inch of moisture has kept the desert green!  By this time of the year, the desert is usually toasty brown heading into our hottest month of the year, June.  And we are 5-10 degr... » Read More

Fun and Funky Handmade Jewelry!

In the Urban Dictionary, I found this fascinating description of the word "funky" as it comes to style: "Funky can be a mixture of thrift store and name brand, lace and leather, a simple gold bracelet and a huge plastic pink one, matching or unmatching, a ton of jewelry or none, classy and trashy. Being funky is about taking risks, and not being afraid to get a stare or two from people who wish they could be as funky as you . . . funky is never about boring."I love that definition!  It was with that in mind, I decided to curate a collection of "Fun and Funky Handmade Jewelry" . . . jewelry will never be boring.  Here are some of the piece... » Read More

Pretty in Purple

I recently created a pair of fun earrings using hand painted and antiqued purple brass fans, purple lampwork beads and other colorful components.   Although purple is not my favorite color, it is near the top of the list and always has attracted me, as do the two colors that combine to make purple.  Because of that I curated a new collection, called "Pretty in Purple" to showcase the "purple" work of twelve ArtFire artists, some featured below.Purple beaded key fob / ID holder bracelet handmade by Mary Beth of TheTwistedRedheadMany, many people have a passion for the color purple, and I can see why with its oh-so-rich color!  Having read ... » Read More

In the Pink for Valentine's Day!

I have to admit that for a long time, I pretty much reviled the softer shades of pink.  I won't go into the reason why except to say I saw way too much of it for several years at a job I had.  Waaaay tooooo muuuuuch . . . Now I still adored the strong pinks, such as hot pinks and fuchsias, but not the softer pinks.Today, however, I have made my peace with the softer side of pink.  While it won't become anywhere near my favorite color, I have come to admire it (in smaller doses) and even wear it on occasion or two.  A paler pink is beginning to creep back into my wardrobe (:Pink heart earrings with green glass and Swarovski crystals han... » Read More
