Kambaba Jasper – Is mottled with shades of black, green and brown.

This jasper is a member of the quartz family.  It can also be called star galaxy jasper.  The patterns of concentric circles and spots makes it look sometimes like a galaxy.

It is thought to have the energy to stabilize the dietary system and emotions.

Kyanite – Typical colors are green, blue, gray and white.

In Greek, kyanite means “blue”.  It is usually a translucent bluish gray stone that has a metallic sheen.

The hardness of kyanite depends on how it is cut.  It is rarely faceted

It is thought to improve communication and aid in intuition.

Labradorite – Usually a grayish blue to smoky black with a hint of green or red.

Labradorite is a dull feldspar mineral that displays a wonderful play of color when viewed from certain angles.  This is caused when refracted light travels through different layers of the stone.

Labradorite is said to banish fear and insecurity and bring clarity of thought.

Lapis lazuli – Colors are intense blue with patches of white or yellow.

This stone comprises different minerals, including lazurite, hauyne, sodalite, calcite and pyrite. 

Lapis is sometimes imitated using stained jasper.  Lower grade lapis is often dyed to enhance the color.

It is believed to impart ancient knowledge and wisdom and enhance intellect.

Larimar – Color is light blue, deep blue, and green-blue.

Larimar is a rare blue type of pectolite found in the Dominican Republic.  Pectolite can be found in other places but the color is not the same blue. Sky blue is used in most high quality jewelry.

Larimar is thought to help ease stress and stimulate brain activity.

Lava stone – Usually black, dark brown or gray.

Lava stone is basalt, a molten rock that has been ejected from a volcano.  The kind most used for beads has small cavities produced as gas or steam expanded during the solidification of the rock.

It is thought to promote mental and physical strength in difficult situations.

Lepidolite – Colors usually violet, pale pink or white.

Lepidolite is a mineral called mica and is found in igneous rocks.

The natural color of this stone does not require any enhancement treatments.

Lepidolite is said to encourage independence.
