Isn't it wonderful when something you love to do provides extended benefits?  My
husband and I just returned from 10 days in a beautiful, warm (okay, I'm not complaining, but it was downright HOT!) tropical paradise.  Ah, Hawaii!!  image

I rea
lly enjoy traveling because of the change in scenery, the change in routine, but especially because I love to window shop!  I so enjoy seeing new things that people have created...new spins on old ideas, totally new designs, crazy creativity at its best!  And, since I live in the Pacific Northwest, the tropics are quite a change of pace for me!  I felt so inspired by the beauty of nature.  There were such beautiful flowers blooming, just everywhere!  The history of the Hawaiian islands and its peoples were just as inspiring.

When I wasn't at the beach with my husband, I was, quite naturally, being drawn to the fabric and quilt shops!  It's so fascinating to visit quilt shops in different parts of the country, and the world for that matter, because everything is familiar, yet everything is quite different, all at the same time!  I love the beautiful Hawaiian applique quilts.  The immense amount of work, all by hand, that is involved in creating one of those beautiful quilts is nothing short of amazing!  Quilts are made all over the world, but each one reflects its maker, its home, its country, its ancestry, and no two handmade quilts could ever be identical.

Truly, there is much to inspire the quilters of Hawaii, as well as all those who have the privilege of visiting.  These are photos I took of a hibiscus flower outside our condo, the remarkable sea swell we experienced while there, and lastly, the sunrise one morning from our lanai. Oh, yes!  I do want to return!
