This month's topic for the Jewelry Artisans Community
blog carnival is Mother's Day.
My feelings about this topic were ambivalent as my own mother passed away last summer after a shockingly short battle with cancer. This is our family's first Mother's Day without her and it felt strange this morning realizing that there would be no Happy Mother's Day phone call being made today.
After much thought, I decided that while I couldn't call her, I could honor her memory by participating in this month's blog carnival.
My mother was a beautiful, vibrant and talented woman. Artistic in so many ways, with a wonderful eye for color and form, whatever talent I have, was a gift she passed down to me.Â
My mother at age 16 - isn't she pretty?
Besides her artistic abilities, she was an exceptional cook, loved to tend her flowers and finding treasures while on shopping expeditions at flea markets and thrift stores. She had a way of spotting something fabulous that others would pass by without a second glance and finding just the right spot for it in her home.
She had a quirky sense of humor, a fiery temper and a mother's unconditional love for her children.  Like all mothers and daughters we had our conflicts and no one knew how to push my buttons like she did.
Many years later on my wedding day and more beautiful than ever:
Three generations - my mom, grandmother and me. I wore my mother's wedding dress at my own wedding:
She missed her mother terribly and I like to think they are together now watching over all of our family.
Mom, this blog post is for you - Happy Mother's Day!
