Happy October! I cannot believe another month has flown by. And with another month, means another finished challenge for the Cardmakers on ArtFire guild. This month I challenged our members to create something using an ombre color scheme.
While researching the definition for my cardmakers, I learned the word has many meanings. In it's most popular definition, ombre is a three handed card game that was popular in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Not very useful for the creation of greeting cards.
For our purposes, ombre means having colors or tones that shade into each other. Jump on pinterest and you will see pictures of ombre in relation to hair color, nails and most eye catching, cakes.
Whenever I set out these challenges, I need to mull them over, usually for a week or two and think about what I want to create. This first card came about after about two weeks of thinking. The idea started to come together in my mind and in a happy circumstance, I was able to create on paper what I saw in my mind. This all occasion card is the result of that thought process.
After I had one idea under my belt, I liked the final result so much that I wanted to try another, but in a different format. I like to stretch myself and try to do something in various ways in order to add as much variety to my shop as possible.
This time I wanted to make the ombre design a little less obvious and put it a bit into the background rather than the foreground of the card. The result is this Thanksgiving Card.
Have I maxed out my ombre ideas? Nope ~ there are several more that I would like to try. But the month got away from me, as they usually do. But I have to say that I'm really glad I decided on this challenge as I ended up with two really fun cards in my shop. I hope you agree!
