This week's Design Team Project for the Cutting Cafe was to use the
Valentine Window Card Tops Templates. I wanted to show how you can use the same template to create completely different looks in a card.
Here is the link where you can find the templates. There are 17 different designs to choose from in this one file.
The first card I made was a more serious Valentine card - I used a white cardstock as the base. The next layer is a red and pink polka dot cardstock. Then I used a silver foil cardstock to add some shine. The next layer is a red Bazzill cardstock embossed with small polka dots. They are the layer that peeks through the cutout I Heart U windows that are cut into the top layer of gray and white damask print paper.
For the heart, I used the same pink and red polka dot cardstock as the outer frame. I used the cut out heart as a template and cut out 5 more hearts using the red cardstock. I glued two sets of them together back to back and then folded them in half. I glued one flat one down where the window heart was. Then I glued the first folded heart in the center of that one and nested and glued the next one in the first glued heart. Then I cut out a smaller heart in the Red Bazzill cardstock and folded and glued that one inside the larger hearts. That gives the hearts a 3D effect.
The Second Card I made, used the same template. The base cardstock is a red and white striped cardstock with a bit of shimmer to it. The next layer is a solid black cardstock. This I used as the peek through layer. The top layer is an Old Fashioned Valentine Patterned paper. This is the layer the I Heart U is cut out in. I popped the black and patterned layer up off the card with foam pop dots or added dimension. The center of the heart is a little red cardstock heart embellishment. It is popped off the center of the black heart with a foam dot.
As you can see, you can create many different cards using just one template. With this set, you get 17 different ones! Be sure to check out The Cutting Cafe if you haven't yet. Their templates are addictive.
