Stained Glass Trillium Art Quilt 8x10

Image Description
"Stained Glass Trillium" Mini Art Quilt for framing 8"x10".

This piece is one of the few art quilts I have done that does not include a sunprint. It is a trillium flower in which I cut the pieces from quilt sandwiches, and satin stitched them together with black thread for the stained glass look. The fabrics surrounding the flower were remains from trimming some of my sunprints. The trillium flower is accented with sparkle paint, and it and the leaves are highlighted with free motion quilting, the fused crazy patch border is free-motion quilted with a vine design, using clear thread. Edges are bound with a black and multi-colored yarn couched on. Sized to fit a standard 8"x10" frame, mount on an artist canvas, or display any way you wish.

This is made in what I call my "Sandwich" method. I begin by fusing fabric to both sides of a batting, then cut, butt edges together, and satin stitch the seams. Many designs are possible this way. The borders were made with my fused crazy patch. The batting is backed, and then I randomly fuse scraps of fusible backed fabrics I have been hoarding since my placemat making days. In some of the crazy patch pieces, I use only various shades of ivory, neutral, and white commercial fabrics. In this piece, I have added soft colored painted fabrics for more of a marble-like look.
