Quick Blurb

Hi! My name is Zara. Gem On A Wire is my outlet for expressing myself by creating jewelry that I love for you.

I have always been a "rockhound". I love mother nature's gemstones and am now into leather bracelets and linen crochet bracelets with gemstones, glass and other mixed media. Creating jewelry is my passion.

Skills and Techniques

My skills include putting colors and textures of gemstones together and combining them with wire. I have now expanded that into using gorgeous Czech glass beads with leather. I love leather wrapped jewelry. This has become my newest obsession. I am, however, open to all jewelry making methods and mediums and it will be interesting to see what my jewelry making future will bring.

Get to Know

I am 65 years old and have discovered that I have a creative streak. I have worked in the areas of law and real estate and most recently was a residential real estate appraiser. When the market crashed and I decided to retire I realized that I needed to have something else to do with the rest of my life. I have always loved jewelry and when I was working I would buy it regularly. I always bought my clothing to go with my jewelry. For me the jewelry is the main thing and the clothes are the accessories. So I decided to start making earrings so that I would have lots of jewelry to wear. People began to comment on them and some asked if I could make them some and so a new profession was born. Gem On A Wire came into being in October of 2010 and I haven't looked back. I am supposed to be retired but this is an all consuming obsession. I often wake up thinking about a design and have to write it down because in my dotage I find that I forget quickly. Anyway I have learned a lot and have a lot to learn. It is very exciting getting up in the morning and wondering what will be created by the end of the day. I would do this even if I never sold a piece (although I hope I do). How much fun can one person have? Doing something they really love and getting paid for it! You can also find me on Facebook at Gem On A Wire and if you really wanted to you could like my page. That would be great! Thanks in advance.
