Jungle Mosaic King Size Quilt w/2 Pillowcases
This quilt is in the very rare pattern called "Road to Lampassus". I thought that this must be some kind of Bible thang, but the only Lampassus my son and I have been able to find is in Texas. The original antique quilt was in a magazine I get, and it was a kinda messy jumble of harsh contrasting colors... I liked the premise of the pattern- - - using patches of the same fabric in certain placements in each square, throughout. I went and made it more regular, by using the natural muslin there as one of the fabrics in every square... then using bunches of fat quarters of the same fabrics in alternating placements in every other square.
I am pretty excited how this turned out !! I'm glad that I could make a more or less homogeneous blend of the patterns, never too much blue, not too much reddish or browns. I am super happy with the professional kinda look of it.
The backing is pieced, using natural muslin for a corner, and the rest the same maroon solid as the binding. The batting is high fluff polyester, which is hard to quilt, especially for a quilt this large. However- - - I infintely prefer it, loving the super- raised look of the puffs from the quilting.
The decision to make offset diamonds for the interior of the quilting just seemed to be demanded by the quilt after the thought occured to me. The interior border was quilted in scumbles, what are always a pleasure, and the outer border is in the lines I like because they are very small and tight and wear very well.
I'm seeing this as THE perfect quilt for bedrooms with plain off white walls... but it might as well go with browns and blues.
If you look very closely at the print, you can discern flowers, and leopards, leaves, and a lot of swirly swirls, probly just becuz. This was the perfect use of this great fabric.
