15 Organic Brilliant White Jacaranda Tree Seeds-Astoundingly Beautiful
Brilliant White Jacaranda Tree - 15 Seeds
Bignoniaceae Jacaranda mimosifolia
Alt. Jacaranda chelonia, Jacaranda acutifolia, Jacaranda filicifolia
Christmas Tree, Black Poui, Fern Tree, Žakaranda
Discussion: Fernlike leaves composed of many tiny leaflets make for a graceful effect. The leaves are reminiscent of Mimosa, hence the species epithet. As an outdoor tree it will produce masses of starkly brilliant white flowers, lighting up the street. It may bloom a little in a pot, but the foliage is sufficiently attractive by itself to make the plant worth growing. Fast growing, deciduous. The name is believed to be of Guarani origin, meaning fragrant.
Leaf: Alternate, bipinnately compound, 8 to 15 inches long, 13 to 25 pairs of major leaflets, each with a similar number of minor leaflets, green above and paler below.
Flower: Beautiful, bright, pure white, tubular, 1-inch-long, appearing in dense 6 to 10 inch terminal clusters in spring; spectacular display in spring and early summer with often the entire tree and later the ground turning off-white to light-yellow as the flowers fall off. The Jacarandas are impressive trees in May when covered with clusters of stark white tubular flowers.
Fruit: Round, flat, reddish-brown, woody capsule, 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter containing numerous small winged seeds.
Twig: Slender, slightly zigzag, light reddish brown.
Bark: Thin, gray brown, smooth for some time but becoming finely scaly when old.
Height: To over 40 ft. (12 m)
Spacing: Should be over 40 ft. (12 m)
Form: A small tree reaching up to 25 to 40 feet tall with a spreading, arching vase shaped crown. In urban use it is important to prune into one dominant trunk.
Frost Tolerance: Young trees are frost sensitive 12° F and need protection on the coldest nights. Adult trees are resistant to 5° F
Potting: Jacarandas like a free draining compost. They require loam-based compost with either grit or bark chippings to aid drainage. The optimum pH is 6.5. A plant should be re-potted once a year if/when it becomes pot-bound.
Container: Container suitable, providing container is large enough, or repotted as tree grows.
Heat Tolerance: Resistant in arid conditions ad are a suitable Xeriscaping choice.
Sun Exposure: Full sun
Origin: Brazil, Northwestern Argentina, Bolivia
Growth Habits: Deciduous to semi-evergreen tree (Depending upon location and local conditions in growing area), 25 to 50 feet tall (7.5-15 m); twice-pinnately compound leaves, up to 18 inches long (45 cm).
Watering Needs: Requires consistently moist soil; do not let dry out between waterings.
Propagation: Easily by or seeds, limited success with cuttings and division. Use any good garden soil that does not contain a high level of salt and mix with humus and sand. Plant seeds at 0.5 inch deep. During summer, water your plant when the soil starts to dry out. In winter, water when the soil has been dry for a day or two. Give plenty of light to your plant to accelerate germination. It could take anywhere from 1.5 to 7 weeks before germination happens.
