TITLE:
Black Flat Kumihimo Bracelet with Silver Grape Leaf Hook and Eye Clasp.

DESCRIPTION:
This bracelet is constructed by using the braiding technique know as Kumihimo. It is made using the flat braid method using light weight black parachute cord. The ends are covered with silver-plated crimp findings that seal the braid into place. Attached to the ends is a hook and eye clasp shaped like a grape cluster that fits into the curved stem of the leaf. It is very easy to put on and remove with one hand. A very light weight adornment. Extremely easy to wear all day. The silver decorative closure is the ideal focal point of the bracelet. The silver vs. black is the best compliment ever. Black Kumihimo braid can be worn to multiple occasions. This black bracelet is that perfect all day accessory.

What is Basic Kumihimo?
Definition as of Kumihimo.com
Kumihimo is a braiding technique that is used in the making of long decorative strands. These cords are used in a variety of decorative ways. Some people wear them as bracelets or necklaces. Others use them as functional laces or simply let them swing free. Basic strands are made by looping thread through the fingers in a repetitive manner. Ancient samurai warriors used to decorate their armor and sometimes hold it together using Kumihimo cords. Kumihimo is a fun and colorful part of Japanese heritage.
The first Kumihimo were made entirely by hand. These cords were strong but very visually simple. To meet high commercial demand for unique cords, Kumihimo techniques evolved to a degree that necessitated the use of large wooden stands that resembled the looms used to weave cloth. These stands sped up the process of making thick, colorful strands. Kumihimo became an integral part of traditional Japanese dress.
These days, simple Kumihimo braids are made by affixing thread of different colors to different points around a disk that is made expressly for this purpose. Complex cords can be made using up to 24 different pieces of thread. There is no right way to make Kumihimo. Each cord is comprised of threads of varying colors and thicknesses. Some look like uniform braids and other’s look like series of well-placed knots. Some people have turned their Kumihimo hobbies into luxury fashion trades. They make their cords out of strands of silk and other expensive materials.
The literal meaning of the word Kumihimo is “come together.” The name suits the braids, which are painstakingly connected by their makers. Designs do not appear in Kumihimo by chance. Expert braiders have learned how to place their pieces of thread around their tools to create the patterns they desire. With experience, Kumihimo enthusiasts develop braiding techniques that are so complex as to border on engineering. They swap colors and thicknesses around in the midst of making single cords to deliberately disrupt their carefully planned patterns.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

My work starts as an idea then organic growth takes over until the mind screams STOP!

The use of textiles has been a part of jewelry designing for so many years. Weaving and braiding torn textiles was common practice going back to ancient times. It has always been fascinating how diverse the end products are with such a mundane craft. In this case, as the rat-tail cords are interlaced utilizing the Kumihimo braiding methods is immediately rewarding to the creative process. Watching the development of the flat strip is truly rewarding. Once the process is started one is hooked in the completion of desired project. The addiction to creating these objects is real. As the project at hand is completed plans for the next are beginning.

I consider my work Wearable Art...Miniature Works of Art, are a way to express ones love of things.

Great shipping, great packaging. I just thought the necklace was going to be more browns and greens and darker. It is a pretty necklace but not what I was expecting from the picture.
