These long earthy gemstone earrings bring together drop-shaped rainforest jasper (rhyolite) focal beads, faceted carnelian rounds, and hand-fashioned wire spirals. The rainforest jasper drops are about 5/8 inches in length and present a warm mix of woodsy greens with various patterns that include cream, brown, and (in one drop) a touch of reddish orange.
Because of the structure of this kind of gemstone, each rainforest jasper bead has its own unique patterning. Although not identical, these two focals are lovely companions and complement each other nicely. Each seems to have its own unique "window" in its patterning, with one window round and offering the view of a small quartz inclusion and the other more squarish and white. They're a wonderful example of Mother Nature's art, and just a bit mysterious! (I've included a photo of the backs of these beads in my listing's pictures, altho I've wired these earrings to keep the "windows" side forward.)
The rainforest jasper drops are bordered with little copper bicones, with the handmade wire spiral below and a wire wrap at the top. The wire is "Natural" nontarnish copper color. I gently hammered the spirals for strength, so that they will keep their shape.
The main beads dangle from a top component with very pretty faceted carnelians nestled between TierraCast (made in the USA) copper-on-pewter bead caps. The earring wires are copper and come with clear earnuts for better security when worn. If your ears are sensitive to copper, I will be happy to replace them with sterling silver or 22K gold-plated hooks (whatever you would prefer).
These earrings are quite long, with a length around 2 3/4 inches. In my listing's pictures, I've included a photo that includes a side-by-side comparison with ruler, to help you get a clear idea of the length.
I think of this pretty pair as "Windows of the Earth" earrings, and loved creating them! They have a wonderful organic quality and the sense of an ancient world.
About the Gemstones and Spirals:
Rainforest jasper (rhyolite) - This is considered a power stone of inner balance (Yin/Yang) that is beneficial for self-esteem and letting go of burdensome issues from the past. It is believed to strengthen perserverance and to help with communication and meditation. Creativity, joy, and healing are also linked with this gemstone.
Carnelian - Lovely, warm carnelian belongs to the quartz family and is a type of chalcedony. A rich and regal-looking gemstone, it has been used for jewelry since ancient times. It is regarded as a power stone of healing and a protector against negative forces. It reputedly has many influencing properties, such as dispelling fear, building courage, strengthening confidence, nurturing creativity, focusing energy, and sharpening mental clarity in preparation for action.
Spirals - The spiral is an age-old symbol that appears in the native arts of various cultures around the world. It is probably most notable in ancient Celtic art, where the figure of a single spiral is thought to represent the sun and the movement of a day. Usually, progression (such as a journey) and positive forward movement are associated with spirals.
