Damele Turquoise and Straw Casting Pendant
Broom straw casting is really fun to make and a great way to recycle sterling silver scrap. Straw reclaimed from a broom is bundled with wire, soaked in water and then molten silver is poured into the top of the bundle resulting in cool and unique formations. I created this pendant for a jeweler's design challenge. I purchased this small piece of Damele turquoise from a FB auction about a year ago. It is hard to come by and somewhat pricey so when this cab came up at a reasonable price, I bid and much to my surprise, won the auction. The stone snuggled nicely into the straw casting and has its own bezel setting. Overall, the pendant is 1 and 1/2 inches in length with the bail and 1/2 on an inch wide. There are three tiny 14K gold accents at the top left side of the stone. The pendant hangs from an 18 inch sterling chain with a sterling lobster claw clasp.
