*** This unit has been gently used. All of the cutters in this unit work and since it is expensive to ship - because it is heavy - and greatly reduced in price, this item is a FINAL SALE - no returns, no exchanges. You buy it "as is". Thanks. ***
The reason why I'm selling this unit is because I have some health-related issues with both of my hands, and they simply cannot handle the shock of the big hammer striking down on this type of disc cutter.
I end up in pain and barely able to do anything for a few days after cutting just a half a dozen discs on these cutters, so I'm selling them off for half the price of what I originally paid for them. (I paid $55.00 you get it for $27.00 + shipping)
I'm treating my hands to a new Swanstrom disc cutter instead ($250.00!), but I know my hands will thank me for it.
If you're starting out with metal working and can't afford a Swanstrom disc cutter, and your hands are "healthy" then you will be fine using this unit.
My hands are so bad, I can't even wring water out of a dish rag without my hands hurting for a few hours (just to give you an idea of how sensitive they are).
In any case, here's the low-down on this particular unit:
- 5 pieces case harden steel disc cutter.
- Disc sizes are 1/2", 5/8", 3/4', 7/8" and 1 inch.
- They say that you can cut up to 20 gauge sheet metal on this unit. I have not used it for 20g (and I honestly think that it would be hard to cut 20g with this unit), but I found that it worked fine for 24g to 28g dead soft sterling sheets. I had a bit of a hard time cutting 22g sheet with the largest cutter. I guess the larger the cutter, the harder it is to cut thicker sheet metal.
- Use your imagination - You can make discs, crescent moon shapes (I do a lot of crescent moons), and also football (oval) shapes, as well as a variety of other shapes.
Stop cutting circles by hand, and having to deal with filing and all the time involved - Disc cutters save you a truckload of time!
How to use: Make sure to set the base with screw heads up, place your sheet of metal in the unit's slot, put some cut-lube around the base/the bottom edge of the cutting punch and place the cutting punch (the cutters) with the flat/sharp edge down on the metal and hit the cutters only on the beveled end using a heavy hammer.
Make sure to hammer down the cutting punch all the way through the base. You should set the base on a raised items like a piece of wood, so that the cutters can fall out at the bottom. You can use a small piece of wood or a dowel about 1/4" size to help poke through the cutters if they get stuck. You can also use this unit with a press.
This unit is HEAVY and the shipping has been adjusted and calculated accordingly to ship by Parcel Post. If you purchase other items from my Studio, then you will save on shipping with the combined shipping, so make it worth your while :)
