ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Desert Vista Dyeworks uses professional acid dyes on all of our yarns. HOWEVER, being hand-dyed yarn we cannot always guarantee that during the first wash a little dye loss may occur, so don't be alarmed! You can prevent a lot of dye loss by washing all dyed yarns in cold water.

Hand wash all of our yarns using cold water and a color catcher.

Concerns Regarding Dye Either Bleeding While Knitting or Washing

First, If you are reading this - you've experienced something that I work really hard to prevent! I understand that it is frustrating to receive a product in which you feel is not up to commercial standards. As an Indie Dyer of more than 9,000 skeins of hand dyed yarn, I can honestly say that there are times when things do not always work the way we expect them. Luckily for me and you, this does not happen very often.

If you experience any type of bleeding of dye onto your hands while knitting there are several things that can be occurring.

The first may be that your skin oils, hand lotion or other products may be reacting with the dye. I have had this happen on two occasions. One was DVD yarn and one was another dyer after I had used hand sanitizer. I washed my hands and it was all good.

The second may be excess dye in your yarn. All of our yarn is rinsed and rinsed and rinsed until the water is clear. Sometimes once the yarn is dry and then manipulated, winding, knitting, reskeining, there can be some changes in how the yarn reacts.

Here are the ways that I have used to reset yarn or finished objects that I thought were going to bleed.

Soak the yarn or FO is cold water with a couple of glugs of vinegar and a color catcher. This almost always does the trick. If there is quite a bit of dye releasing from your yarn or FO move on to step two.
Wrap the yarn is cellophane and pop into the microwave for a couple of minutes. (Do not do this with the sparkle base. I actually caught some on fire a few years back. Put the sparkle base wrapped in cellophane is a steamer for ten minutes.)
If none of these steps help with the yarn bleeding. We may just need to replace it. ( It happens, but again not very often!!!!!) If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me at desertvistadyeworks@gmail.com

Yarn colors may vary slightly from the pictures. We try to get each photograph as true to life as possible, but please remember each computer monitor can vary.

We specialize in custom orders, so please contact us if there a yarn color you would like which is not listed.

All of our hand-dyeing is done in a smoke-free environment. Each item has been hand washed and is rinsed and ready to use upon arrival.

Finally, we thank you for browsing our ArtFire shop. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
