Process of Creation: 2-4 layers of vintage cotton sarees (Indian wrap around dress) are hand quilted together using Kantha stitch. The quality of kantha quilting is measured in number of stitches per inch. Quilts with higher number of stitches being more labor intensive to create are highly prized. Higher number of stitches per inch of quilt also gives them more weight, longevity and allows them to be used as bedspreads as well as throws. This is a really finely quilted throw with no odd patches and excellent condition.
Condition : Excellent. Although I have done my best to repair and restore it still it is a vintage textile and minor imperfections such as blemishes, loose threads, patches from other sarees etc. may exist and are considered to add to charm of these throws or quilts
Quilt will arrive at your home freshly laundered.
Please check out my other listings. I will be happy to combine shipping.
*****More information about the provenance/story of this item ********
This kantha quilt was collected from an Indian village. Due to age, use and at times neglect, some of them had holes, stains and frayed edges. I did my best to restore it to its original state by repairing holes, using kantha hand quilting stitches. Big stains (if present) were also covered up with clean fabric patches using hand quilting. Then my daughter and I washed the smaller stains out and repaired the frayed edges, as much as possible. All of this repair and restoration work was done with my own hands using cotton threads, cotton fabric patches and needle.
