Hand Quilted Throw Bed Cover Picnic Blanket Glittering Zari Border
This listing is for a vintage, mint condition, cotton, patch-work, hand quilted using Kantha embroidery quilt throw bedspread or picnic blanket as shown in pictures. This is an finely quilted throw lovingly made years ago for a daughter's dowry trunk. Finding one in mint condition such as this one is rare indeed. I have never found another one with Zari (golden colored, glittering effect border and lines pattern) like this one. Each kantha quilt is one of a kind, no two are alike. Fully reversible. The bed used in pictures is a queen size bed.
MATERIAL: pure cotton.
Dimensions: 62 inches width x 98 inches length
Weight of the quilt: ~5 lbs ....2 times heavier than daily use kantha quilt.
Care : cold water, gentle cycle machine wash, hang dry OR dry clean. This will not shrink or bleed color if care instructions are followed.
Process of Creation: 10-12 layers of vintage cotton sarees (Indian wrap around dress) and cotton fabric were hand quilted together using Kantha stitch. Extremely fine hand quilting. To make this marriage trousseau item more special than daily use kantha quilts, very fine quilting was done on quilt. A glittering golden/green thread border and lines on the red side of the quilt. Extremely high number of kantha hand stitches per inch, renders this kantha quilt throw suitable for use as a one of a kind rug similar to a flat weave rug/picnic blanket among other uses. It also imparts it weight and longevity. Can be used as upholstery fabric for sofa, chair or other home decor projects. Perfect for all seasons.
Condition : Exceptionally clean and vibrant colors. That being said, it is a vintage item and minor imperfections such as patches from other colorful sarees, extra threads from quilting considered to add to charm of these throws or quilts.
Rest assured, item will be double washed before being sent to you.

*****More information about the provenance/story of this item ********
This kantha quilt was part of the wedding trousseau trunk of a family member or village lady decades ago. Due to age, use and at times neglect, some of them had holes, stains and frayed edges. I did my best to restore it to its original state by repairing holes, using kantha hand quilting stitches. Big stains (if present) were also covered up with clean fabric patches using hand quilting. Then my daughter and I washed the smaller stains out and repaired the frayed edges, as much as possible. All of this repair and restoration work was done with my own hands using cotton threads, cotton fabric patches and needle.
