Raised Plaster Stone Tile Stencil
It came to me in the night and I just had to get up and draw it out! Real looking stone tiles.
I can just imagine this as the backsplash behind my stove to give that wall a natural stone look.
There are 4 off-set tiles in 6x6 size, separated by a 1/4" grout line.
In the first photo, you see the stencil as it is plastered normally.
In the last photo, you see the same stone tile after I got crafty and added more colored joint compound with a cake decorating kit! That's right! Instead of filling it with frosting, I filled it with colored compound and just had a blast creating further raise in those stone!
Here's how to create varied color stones. It's a cinch!: (See second photo)
Put some joint compound in to a separate container. Add a bit of two different colors of craft paint (I used black and rust brown for mine). Take your trowel, plastic scraper or a spoon and just "swirl" the colors together to slightly blend. You actually want to see all three colors (the third being the white of the joint compound).
Now, scoop some of this mixture up and smear it over a piece of cardboard or newspaper as a test. This gives you the opportunity to play a little bit with just how you like yours to look. Now, do the same to the stencil. Try NOT to blend the colors too much. Having distinct separation of color makes it totally look real.
Remove the stencil and let your stones dry before repeating the pattern.
To add even more raise, fill a cake decorating bag or similar cake decorating tool with color tinted joint compound and begin piping further raise on to each stone tile! What a kick in the pants and it looks so awesome!
Use this tile stencil with concrete and concrete colorings for outdoor applications! This is a technique that can be used on any stone or brick stencil to achieve awesome results!
Plaster stencils are cut from super heavy duty 14 mil mylar. Painting stencils are cut from durable 5 mil mylar.
