The ArtFire Check-In system has been designed so that you can easily and efficiently check-in with your ArtFire studio.  Regularly checking-in with your ArtFire studio is the best way to ensure no communication with your customers has been missed and that everything is running smoothly with your studio.

Why should I Check-In?  What Do They Do?

There are two main mechanics to the ArtFire Check-In System.  There is a publicly visible component which is optional for Pro members, and there is a behind the scenes element that affects all users.

Public Last Check-In - Your most recent check-in will display publicly on your studio and item pages.  The smallest amount of time that is ever displayed is "Today."  Which means if you checked in 6 hours ago, or if you checked-in 2 minutes ago; your last check-in time would display as "Today."  If you go consecutive days without checking in, "Today" will grow to "Yesterday," "Two Days Ago," and so on.  As a Pro member on ArtFire you have the option to turn off the public display of your last check-in in your studio footer settings page here.

Behind the Scenes - Beyond the optional public display, your last check-in will also be taken into account for the default on-site search engine.  As long as your last check-in has been within the last seven days, your items will maintain maximum relevancy within the site index.  If you haven't checked-in to your ArtFire studio for eight days or more your items will receive a penalty and be considered less relevant in the on-site search index.  That penalty is magnified significantly if you go thirty days without checking into your studio.  If you go ninety days without checking-in, any buyers that find your items will receive a notice that you have been inactive for a prolonged period of time, and your buyers will be told they should contact you first before completing a purchase from your studio.  These mechanics affect both Pro and Basic member items.

How Do I Check-In?

Checking-in is fast, easy, painless, and free.  All you have to do is push the big blue  "Check-In Now" button located on your My ArtFire Dashboard.  You only have to push the button once a day to keep your consecutive check-in total going, though you are welcome to check-in as many times in a day as you'd like.  Once you check-in for the day, your last check-in will display as "Today" (if you haven't turned the option off) and you will be set for the day.

I like this idea! I check in everyday anyway and if this will help my items "maintain maximum relevency" over items from inactive studios that's even better!
