Now that you’ve started to get a feel for Facebook and you’re working your way towards a proper following, we’re going to cover a few ways that you can become more efficient with Facebook (and social media in general). We don’t want you to spend your entire day using social media… you’ve got better things to do!

Just as a little summary, Postling is a social media management tool. With your account, you can link up all of your social networks so you can do all of your posting, responding, and scheduling of comments from one place. This means that you can cut down on the number of times you log in and out of all your social networks and it makes engaging with your followers easier than ever.

Note: you absolutely do not have to sign up for Postling. We’d never force you to do anything! However, we think that Postling offers a lot of great ways for you to organize your social media accounts, and it will help make your lives easier! There is a completely free version that will fit nearly everyone’s needs. However, if you do decide that you want to upgrade, ArtFire has secured a 25% discount. So, if you haven’t done so, signup for your account here.

Now let’s get on to the good stuff….

Here are a few things that will unquestionably make your social media efforts successful, with less effort:

  • Scheduling your posts
  • Having all of your social media accounts in one location
  • Responding to all comments from one place
  • Cut down on the number of times you have to log in and out of all your social networks

Adding your Facebook Page to Postling

Now we know some of you may have already added your Facebook Page to Postling but we’re going to start from square one to make sure everyone is covered. If you’re just registering, it should take you to the page that asks you to create a brand. A “brand” is basically a fancy word for what your ArtFire shop name is. It just gives a name to a folder for all of your social media accounts. Once you’ve created your brand go ahead and add your Facebook Page by clicking the Facebook logo. Go ahead and select the Business option instead of the Personal one. Now Facebook is going to ask you to login to your personal account, but don’t worry we aren’t adding your personal profile! Since your Page is connected to your personal profile we have to go through these step to get permission to access your Facebook Page (i.e. let you post to it through Postling). Simply click allow when prompted, and then select your Facebook Page. You Page should have added successfully… and you’re welcome to test it out by sending a little status update. It’s up to you! Now you can stop here, or you can add other social networks if you want (we will get to this later on in Boot Camp so don’t worry if you don’t want to do it now). Feel free to play around and add other networks, keyword trackers, etc.

If you, at any point, need to go back in and edit your Brand name or add more social media accounts, you can simply click on the brand name on the left side of Postling. The bottom option of this section says “Manage This Brand”. Clicking on this will give you all the choices of adding/removing accounts, changing options, etc.

Once you’ve added your social media account(s) you can either choose to add some trackers (such as tracking the web for keywords - like your business name) or go straight to your dashboard. It’s up to you. Again, we’ll cover keyword tracking later on in Boot Camp but you’re welcome to play around.

Your Dashboard

Your dashboard gives you an at-a-glance view of your social media accounts. If you had anyone comment on your Facebook Page it will show up here. See that little reply button on the right of the comment box? You can click that to easily reply to any comments you get. We’ll send it off to the right account for you. Now, see the “Post an Update” in the top-left corner of Postling? This is where you can create all of your updates. For Facebook, you can choose from update your status (short updates), create a blog post (longer posts), or upload an image.

Schedule your posts to publish in the future

Sometimes inspiration may strike you at funny times, or maybe your downtime doesn’t match up with the ideal time for you to publish your posts to Facebook. Using Postling you can schedule status updates, images, and blog posts (called Facebook Notes). And let me tell you, scheduling your posts is going to change your life. This means that you can write a week’s worth of updates on Sunday night, or if you have a really creative idea but it’s 1am on Tuesday you may want to hold off on publishing it. Use the scheduling tool to publish content out on the days and times that you think will be the most effective.

Daily Digest Email

Every morning you’ll receive a daily digest email recapping the activity on your social media accounts over the past 24 hours. Each comment shows when it was published, who said it, and you can easily click reply in the email itself. In the free version of Postling, we’ll send you the three latest comments for each social network/tracker. If you’d like to upgrade to Plus to get a complete daily digest email you can do so here.

Email Alerts/Reply by Email

Another paid feature in Postling is the option to get email alerts. This means that anytime someone writes on your Facebook Page we will send you an email with the comment. You can simply reply to the email itself to respond to the comment (no need to go to Facebook, or even Postling!). We’ll send it off to the right account for you. Now, for Facebook Pages it’s likely you’ve already got Facebook sending you emails when people write on your Page, but if you anticipate wanting email alerts for your other social media accounts (like when someone tweets at you or comments on a blog post), it may be a good idea to turn off the Facebook emails and turn on Postling’s email alerts. Again, the choice is totally up to you!

You can change your email options here

———

If you get lost along the way, try taking a glance at Postling’s FAQ — most of your basic questions will be covered there. Honestly, the best thing you can do is start using the scheduler (it’s totally free!) and see how it changes your social media habits.

So that’s it for this week’s recap on Postling. We’re more than happy to answer any and all questions regarding Postling, using social media efficiently, etc.

As always, we’ll be watching the comments and will jump in if you guys need!

Alexis

EDIT: So, so sorry... the wrong sign up link was included. You can sign up here!

Here is our tour so you can see some screenshots and a bit of an explanation of what all the different features include.

And for those of you who wanted to see, here is our pricing structure. We will explain it all.. we just wanted to focus on Facebook specifically this week!

The sign-up link does not work for me, but it may be a firewall issue

If you back space once, you will get to the registration page.

But, I want to know the price. Before I sign up for anything, I want to know how much it costs.

What on earth does all that mean?  Review tracker?  Brand? 1 keyword?  I have lots of keywords in my items.

I'm not sold on any site that's supposed to unify my social networking when this is the second time I've seen them post a broken link.  And honestly, I hope this entire boot camp isn't here to sell us stuff each week.  And if they are going to try to sell us stuff, at least explain what the heck it is in a nutshell...that postling website is seriously lacking information.

Hey there. A Brand is explained is this week's post. It's simply a folder for all your social networks. So for my Postling account I have the brand "Postling" and another brand for "Alexis" so I can keep them separate.

Keywords are things you want to track across the web. So maybe it's your business name? The product you specialize in making?

Regardless, we'll completely cover keywords and tracking your reputation online as boot camp progresses. One step at a time!

Is Brand already explained in one of this week's posts, or one yet to come?  There's 74 pages on the first thread, 17 on the second thread.  Maybe we need a section for highlights or a recap of the pertinent info or something....there's no way I can keep up with every page.  I don't see those threads letting up anytime, soon, either.

1 keyword in the free membership, and 3 keywords in the next level up at what looks like $9 a month?  I'm assuming we're talking keywords that google finds...  3 keywords doesn't go very far for shops full of different products.  1 keyword in google might put me on page 597,893 of google results unless it's my shop name.  Just saying....
