Types of Coupons
Percent off All Items
A percentage-off coupon code for all items applies the discount at the item level to each item in a cart. This code will not affect shipping costs.
Percent off Order Total
A percentage-off order coupon applies the selected discount to the entire order, items + shipping. The seller has the option to set a minimum price that a buyer must reach in order to use this coupon. The order total is calculated by adding the price of all items in a shopping cart + all shipping costs.
e.g. You promote a coupon as "Spend over $30 in my studio and use the coupon BIG SPENDER to get 15% off your order." A buyer puts 2 of your items in their cart that totals $27, shipping is $5 for one item plus $2 for additional items. The order total would be $34 and the buyer would be able to use your coupon to get 15% off the order.
Percent off Studio Category(s)
A percentage-off selected studio category(s) coupon will apply the selected discount to selected studio category(s). e.g. "Use the coupon BRACELET SALE to get 20% off all bracelets in my studio." This discount will only be applied to items in the category(s) selected by the seller. If a customer checks out with multiple items from different categories the discount will only be applied to the category(s) designated by the seller when the coupon code was made.
Percent off Selected Items
A percentage-off selected items coupon code will apply the selected discount to only those items that the seller selected when creating the coupon code. Percent off Price Range
Percent off Item within Price Range
A percent-off item within a price range will apply the discount chosen by the seller to any items that fall within the chosen price range set by the seller. At this point, the price range coupon is only able to determine if an individual item falls within the chosen range. The discount will be applied to each item that does fall within the range. If you do not want to have a maximum price as part of your price range, you can set the max price higher than the cost of any of the items in your shop.
Dollar off Order Total
An $X off the order total coupon (Where "X" is the number of dollars off selected by the seller) will take off the amount selected by the seller as long as that would not cause the grand total to be zero dollars or less. You have the option to set a minimum order necessary to use this coupon. The minimum (if used) will be checked against the Items + Shipping grand total. E.g. "Use the coupon BIG SAVINGS to get $5 off any order over $30 in my studio!"
Dollar off Every Item
An $X off every item coupon code will subtract the selected amount from every item that a buyer purchases. If you set a $3 off every item coupon code and a customer uses that code to buy 5 products from you, the customer will get $15 dollars off that order regardless of the price of each item (unless the order total would be less than $15 which would zero out the order, making it free).
Dollar off Studio Category
An $X off studio category items will apply the discount to any item from the studio category(s) selected by the seller. E.g. "Use the coupon SAVE NOW to get $2 off every necklace in my studio" would give a customer a $2 dollar discount for each necklace they buy but would not be applied to any other items in different categories.
Dollar off Selected Items
An $X off a selected item will apply the chosen discount only to the items you designate. A customer buying multiple items from you who uses this code will only get the discount on the items you have selected.
Dollar off Price Range
An $X off a price range code subtracts the discount from any item within a price range chosen by the seller. At this point, the price range coupon is only able to determine if an individual item falls within the chosen range. The discount will be applied to each item that does fall within the range. If you do not want to have a maximum price as part of your price range, you can set the max price higher than the cost of any of the items in your shop.
Free Shipping to the US & Canada
We apologize to our international sellers and buyers but at this time we are unable to offer the free shipping coupon code for transactions outside the US & Canada. We hope that in the near future, once we have completed our "Shop by Location" feature, we can have a "Free Domestic/International Shipping" coupon code as well but at this time we do not have the ability to process that information during checkout.
Free Shipping on All Items
A free shipping on all items code will remove the shipping costs from each item in an order and applies to every active item in your studio. Free Shipping on Order Total
A free shipping on order total coupon removes the shipping cost from an entire order and can be set to only work after a minimum amount has been reached. E.g. "Use the Coupon FREE SHIPPING to get free shipping on any order over $30 from my studio." Remember that the order total is calculated including shipping costs even though those costs may bring the order total back below the minimum set (order total is calculated before the coupon is entered). If you want to set a minimum dollar amount that is not calculated with shipping, please use the price range free shipping coupon code.
Free Shipping on Studio Categories
A free shipping on studio categories code will remove the shipping cost of any items in the category that the seller selects when making the coupon. If a customer buys multiple items from you using this coupon and some of the items are not in the free shipping coupon code category the system treats this in the following way:
- If a category item has the highest primary shipping then that item will be treated as the free shipping item and the cost of the primary shipping will be deducted from the order total (as well as any secondary shipping costs for any other items in that category that the customer is buying).
- Any non category items will charge the secondary shipping costs associated with them.
- If a non category item has the highest primary shipping cost, that item will be used to calculate the primary shipping cost. The category item's secondary shipping cost will be deducted from the transaction.
If that sounds confusing try to think of it this way, just remember that whatever the customer would have paid to ship the item(s) without the free shipping coupon, is deducted.
Free Shipping on Selected Items
The free shipping on selected items coupon code works in a similar way to the free shipping on studio categories coupon code. The system will deduct the cost of primary shipping from the order if the selected item would have been treated as the primary shipping item without the coupon code. If the item is treated as a secondary shipping item, then it's secondary costs will be deducted.
Free Shipping on Price Range
The Free Shipping on Price Range code will reduce any items shipping cost to zero when that item falls within the price range chosen by the seller. Each item will need to fall within the chosen price range for their shipping costs to be free. If you do not want to have a maximum price as part of your price range, you can set the max price higher than the cost of any of the items in your shop.
The "Free Gift" coupon code allows you to describe the gift the buyer will receive after a qualifying order (whatever the coupon is set for). The buyer receives notification that their code worked and will be able to read your description of the gift during the checkout process.
Free Gift on All Items
The free gift on all items code allows a buyer to receive a free gift with a purchase of any item in your shop. In this case that does not mean that the buyer will receive multiple gifts with multiple items purchased, it means any order qualifies for the gift.
Free Gift on Order Total
The free gift on order total coupon allows a buyer to receive a free gift with any purchase, and the seller has the option to set a minimum order before this coupon will work. E.g. "Spend $50 or more in my shop and use the coupon FREEBIE to get a free gift!" The order total coupon takes shipping costs into account.
Free Gift on Studio Categories
The free gift on studio categories allows the seller to designate a category(s) where a customer can buy from to use the coupon code and receive a free gift.
Free Gift on Selected Items
The free gift on selected items coupon code allows the seller to designate certain items that a customer can buy to receive a free gift with the coupon.
Free Gift on Price Range
The free gift on price range code will give the buyer a free gift if one of the items purchased falls within the price range chosen by the seller. If you do not want to have a maximum price range for your free gift code you can set that price to be higher than the cost of any of the items in your shop.
Coupon Life Spans
If you set a time frame for your coupon it will be valid immediately and will expire according to the days that you set. You can set a coupon to work for any number of days up to 1 year.
If you want to set a coupon to be active at some time in the future, you can select a date range. You cannot select "today" as the start date, and the start and end date cannot be the same day.
Number of Uses
You can set a coupon to work for a certain number of uses such as, "The next 10 people who use the coupon code CRAZY SALE will get 40% off their order total." Once the coupon has been used the number of times that you set, it will become inactive.
All coupon codes expire after one year, if you do not wish to have any other limitations placed on the coupon code you can select the "permanent" setting and have the coupon for a year without it expiring.
Public vs. Non-public
We will be building a shopping method in the future to allow interested buyers to browse public coupon codes. If you choose to make your coupon public, your coupon will be included future Shop by Coupon Code results. If you choose non-public for a code, you still have every right to promote and share your coupon as you want to but we will not include it in any of our future buyer shopping methods. Public Coupon codes may also be displayed on your studio in a future update.
One Per Customer
You can set any coupon to be one per customer; this will keep customers from using the same coupon multiple times in your studio. While it is impossible to stop determined users from switching computers and accounts to use a code twice, the checks we have built into this setting will greatly reduce the potential for multiple uses if this limitation is set. However, this feature can be easily disabled to allow customers to use a code as many times as they wish until it expires.
If you would like to sell/offer a gift certificate to your studio, we provide that functionality as well. You decide the dollar amount of the certificate and give us the recipient's name and email and we will notify the recipient and give them their code. Once a gift certificate is made we treat it like money (the certificate can apply to both items and shipping costs), you cannot expire or delete a gift certificate and it is your responsibility to be in compliance with your own states regulations (and the regulations of the customer's state that may apply) regarding the duration and treatment of gift certificates. When a customer buys from you using a gift certificate you will be notified. If the customer has a remaining balance that amount of money can still be applied to a future purchase. You must honor any gift certificates that you make for the duration that your state requires. In some states that means you must honor a gift certificate indefinitely or for the duration of your business, even if you later choose to leave ArtFire. Because this is an interstate business platform we suggest you use the most stringent laws when issuing gift certificates. This means that gift certificates have no expiration. We encourage you to also keep detailed records of any gift certificates you issue.
