The Global Product Editor Posted On: 04/06/2011 Last Updated: 05/10/2012

The ArtFire.com Global Product Editor allows sellers to perform bulk edits to many of the different editable components of an item listing. Along with global edits to your entire inventory, the Editor contains search and sorting methods to quickly select sub-sections of your inventory or even individual items. To use the Global Product Editor, just go to your MyArtFire and click the "Tools" tab. The "Global Editor" will be on the left.

Attributes that can be Globally Edited

The editor can be used to make changes to the following item attributes:

  • Price
  • Shipping
  • Quantity
  • Item Tags
  • Primary Color
  • Site-Wide Categorization
  • Shop Section (aka studio category)
  • Search Filters
  • Promo Box
  • Promo Label

Step 1 - Three Ways to Select Items

All Active Items - Effects every active item in your shop's inventory.

IMPORTANT - Don't use the Global Editor to decrease your item prices for the purposes of running a sale. You should use the Sales Mode tool which displays the Sale information in your shop and when turned off reverts your items back to their original price.

Specific Studio Categories (Shop Sections) - You to select any number of your custom Shop Sections and globally edit only the items listed in those sections.

Specific Items - You can select any number of individual items to globally edit. When you select the specific items option you'll see list of all your active items broken into pages. To select an item for editing click the "+ ADD" link underneath the item's image. Once you've selected all the items you want to edit you can continue on to Step 2.

Step 2&3 - The Editable Attributes and Their Options

Item Prices

Add a % - Increase the price of selected products by the entered % entered.

Subtract a % - Decrease the price of selected products by the entered %. (again, do not use this option for running a Sale. Sales Mode is the tool for that job)

Add a $ amount - Adds the entered USD amount to all selected items

Subtract a $ amount - Subtracts the entered USD amount from all selected items

Set a new price - Sets a new USD amount for all the selected items

Item Comment Discount

Use overall shop discount - This option will override any comment discount for a selected item and replace it with the shop-wide discount. The shop-wide comment discount rate is managed via the discounts page.

Set other discount % - This option will override any comment discount for a selected item and replace it with the discount entered into the field in Step 3

Item Shipping

Append to Existing Shipping - This option will leave intact any shipping rate that isn't otherwise changed as part of the Global Edit. That means if you have an item that ships to just the U.S., you can use this option to add a rate for "Canada" and the U.S. rate will not be changed. This option will overwrite the rate for any country that's part of the Global Edit. That means if you have an item that ships to the U.S. and Canada you can "Append" a new U.S. rate without changing the Canada rate.

Replace Existing Shipping - This option removes any existing shipping rates and replaces them with the rates entered in the Global Edit. That means if you have an item that ships to the U.S. and Canada and you "replace" the shipping with just a rate for the U.S., the item will no longer have a shipping rate for Canada.

Use Shipping Profile vs. Manual Entry - When changing item shipping rates, you can choose to use one of your pre-made shipping profiles. If you've recently changed the shipping rates in any of your shipping profiles you should use the Global Product Editor to replace the old shipping rates on your items with the rates in the updated profile. If you do not want to use shipping profiles you can also use the "Manual Entry" option to replace or append a shipping rate for an individual country.

Item Category Placement

This option affects the categorization of items in the ArtFire Marketplace. Using the Global Product editor you can re-categorize any items you select into any ArtFire category. The category hierarchy is broken down starting with the Top-Level categories: Handmade, Fine Art, Design, Vintage, Media, and Supplies. Once you've selected a Top-Level category, you'll see another drop down menu appear with the Main categories that are under the Top-Level category previously selected. Depending on the Main category selected you may be given further options for selecting Sub and Sub-Sub-Level categories.

Item Studio Category Placement (shop section):

This option affects the placement of items in your custom Shop Sections. When you choose this option you'll see a drop down menu with all of your custom sections in Step 3.

Item Primary Color

Setting a Primary color for an item is now a required part of the listing process, however, items listed on ArtFire before this requirement was added may not have a color associated with them. This option allows you to quickly update the color attribute for items that have the same or similar primary color.

Item Search Filters

Holiday Association - Items associated with a particular holiday are included in a Gift Guide dedicated to that holiday. Items can only be associated with one holiday at a time.

Age Group and Gender - These options are attributes collected by Google Shopping and will eventually be added as search filters in the ArtFire search engine.

Item Tags

Replace Existing Tags - This option deletes any existing tags for the selected items and replaces them with the New Tags entered in Step 3

Append Existing Tags - This options adds any tags entered in Step 3 to the end of an items list of tags. This option does not remove or otherwise change existing tags.

Note - There is no option available for globally removing tags. If you wish to remove a tag you'll need to edit an item individually.

Item Promo Boxes

Append to Existing - This options adds content to the "Promo" box for an item without affecting any existing content.

Replace Existing - This option deletes existing content in a selected item's Promo box and replaces it with the content entered in Step 3.

Remove Promos - This options deletes all existing content and replaces it with nothing.

What's the Promo Box good for? If you're running a promotion of any kind the Promo Box ensures any visitor to any of your items will know about it regardless of whether they visit any other part of your shop.

Item Quantity

Add - Adds the number entered in Step 3 to the existing quantity for selected items.

Subtract - Subtracts the number entered in Step 3 from the existing quantity for selected items.

Set New - Replaces the exiting quantity for an item with the number entered in Step 3
